AZ Alma: Brand New & State-of-the-Art
Dr. Van den Wyngaert performs all his knee operations at AZ Alma, a state-of-the-art hospital complex in Eeklo (Belgium) that opened its doors in April 2017. Quality, safety and efficiency of service were central concepts in the design of the facilities. These goals are attained with the help of the latest technologies in automation, robotics and surgical equipment, which operate invisibly behind the scenes. The patient only notices the end result: a smooth and comfortable hospital stay.
In total there are 14 operating rooms in AZ Alma, equipped with the very latest in scientific technology. The surgeons themselves, including Dr. Van den Wyngaert, had a big say in the design and equipment of the operating quarters. One major focus was digitization: large screens give surgeons access to your medical files during surgery, which means all necessary information is immediately available. All other services in the hospital are also permanently connected to the internal data network. In total, over 700 kilometers of data cable were laid out in the hospital!
AZ Alma is by far the largest building ever constructed in the region. With 120 doctors, 1250 other employees and 170 volunteers, it is also one of the most important employers. All these service providers work together on one mission: to provide the patient with the best possible care in a warm, open and welcoming environment - the very meaning of AZ Alma's motto "Care with a heart".
